Why Repast Refuses Impossible Meal Plans: The Mathematics of Feasibility

Most apps cheerfully accept contradictory inputs: 15g net carbs, 160g protein, vegan, 1,200 calories. Repast does something different: it refuses to generate impossible plans.

Open almost any diet app, set your daily carbohydrate limit to 15g, your protein goal to 160g, your caloric ceiling to 1,200, and check the 'Vegan' allergen exclusion. The app will happily generate a meal plan full of impossible micro-servings, fantasy ingredients, and corrupted macros. At Repast, our constraint solver was built with a fundamental principle: honest software must refuse impossible profiles.

1. The Combinatorial Reality of Nutrition

Food is not digital software code where parameters can be edited arbitrarily. Real biological foods exist in fixed macronutrient packages.

Plant proteins (like lentils, chickpeas, or beans) come bound to significant carbohydrate matrices. To get 160g of vegan protein from whole plants without processed isolates, you must consume at least 180g of carbohydrates.

Demanding sub-20g net carbs alongside 160g of vegan protein within 1,200 calories is mathematically insoluble in the physical universe.

2. The Dignity of Rejection

When software lies to users to appear accommodating, the user inevitably fails and blames their own willpower.

Repast's on-device constraint solver models meal planning as an integer linear programming problem. If your constraints conflict, Repast tells you immediately, shows you the mathematical bottleneck, and guides you to a physiologically viable solution before you buy groceries.

THE BOTTOM LINE

We built Repast on unyielding physical honesty. When your meal plan is mathematically validated before you step foot in the kitchen, sticking to your goals ceases to be an emotional battle.

MATHEMATICAL FEASIBILITY

A planner that refuses impossible diet profiles.

Repast solves whole-week diets as a mathematical system. If your constraints conflict, it tells you before you buy the wrong groceries.
